Drake Relays 2005
The Drake Relays is the second largest track meet in the United States. The competitors range from middle schoolers to olympic champions. On Friday Laura and I went and sat with some friends in the student section. At one point, the Figi's came, shirtless and reeking of alcohol, and stood around cheering for some runner (we're not sure they even knew who they were cheering for) and we decided they must have taken part in the annual 7:00 beer and breakfast. Sigh. Watching the relays was super fun. I took some pictures - -

Here are some men running.

We think this pole vaulter looks like Colin Farrell. He did fairly well, clearing 16' but failing at 17' - it's okay Colin, we still love you.

Okay - so the plan was that Laura's mom would be arriving around 4pm because she and Laura were running the half marathon the next morning. So Mrs. Bonney arrives at the stadium and Laura goes out to find her and comes back with her mom, and my mom! That was a suprise for me! The rest of the weekend was really fun. We ate real food and got to be in a car for more than 1/2 hour :) Ah, simple pleasures. And it was so great to be able to spend time with my mom. We spent most of the weekend just talking. Here's a picture of the mothers and daughters in front of the tulips (Iowa's favorite flower).

Whew! What a weekend. Now, sometime this week I'll probably go take advantage of the sale on Drake Relays merchandise! :) Next week is finals week - and then packing up this room and getting out of Iowa!
