Things I'm Learning Pt 3

It's that time again!

1. It rains a lot in Des Moines: for example, today its supposed to thunder storm all day until Friday. Then we get a break of sunshine for the weekend, and then the rain starts up again Monday night through Thursday. wow.
2. I'm reading Waking the Dead by John Eldredge again and I feel like I should remember more of the book, I mean I just read it less than a year ago! Regardless, I like this quote:
"It is the image of God reflected in you that so enrages hell; it is this at which the demons hurl their mightiest weapons." - William Gurnall
3. The Hubbell 'dining experience', unlike love, does not grow fonder with absence.
4. I could dance to Frank Sinatra all night long. Not that I have, I just think that I would be able to.
5. Every time you lick a stamp, you're consuming 1/10 of a calorie.

haha, okay that's enough for now.

Oh - I have one complaint for the new Google Satellite maps: of course its my neighborhood that says: "we're sorry, but we don't have imagery at this zoom level for this region." Boo Google! Go take more pictures!

Cupcakes!

As I mentioned: Laura and I made cupcakes over at Amy's house Friday night. Here they are, in all their white frosted glory!

Don't they look delicious? They've been sitting up on my shelf since Friday - and yes, I have been able to keep myself from devouring every last one.

Wow - can you hardly believe that one year ago, I was a senior at new life looking forward to Spring Formal and Senior Trip :) oh, those were great days. And of course the song that capitalizes on that time is Every Moment by Joy Williams - grr to Joy for making such a sad song! Now, in 2005 I don't have many happy and adventurous things waiting for me, just trying to finish out this semester with good grades and then a trip home to try and find a job.

Oh, one more thing: God is so great. In every possible way.

- Bis dann!

It's Thursday

Hello. It's Thursday. I can't wait for Monday to be over with...I have accounting and math tests that day. But, this weekend should be fun - Saturday is the Nehemiah Project and we are going to paint the exterior of this family's house. Then on Sunday night our bible study group is meeting at Gray's Lake and grilling dinner. Laura and I are bringing dessert: cupcakes! homemade too - that is if we get ahold of someone's kitchen :) Okay - back to studying calculus.

Wow, my posts are boring. I'm going to have to think up a way to spice them up a bit.

A quote from my Psych book

Okay, get ready for this:

Athleticism, like intelligence, is many things

That's it.
What is that supposed to mean? I think I am actually dumber for having read it. Oh, and at this point in the book, we are not even talking about athleticism.

- Erin and I couldn't stop laughing about how insightful that comment is.

Mmm...Pudding!

Mmm...Pudding!

Pictures

Here are some pictures that I've been meaning to put up.
The first is of last night's pudding, then of the Intervarsity Praise Band, and one from Betsy and Christian's wedding.

Success! I got into all my classes

Yes - even with the evil MYDUSIS system we register though, I was able to get into all my classes for next year. Here's a brief run-down for anyone who's interested:

Blaw 060: Business Law I - This course combines a strong foundation in contract law with a study of the legal environment of business in the United States. Issues concerned with international business law are also introduced. Well, it doesn't show me how to do my taxes, but it shouldn't be too bad.
Stat 131: Introduction ot Probability - An introduction to probability concepts, including definition of probability; independence; conditional probability; random variables; specific discrete and continuous probability distributions; multivariate random variables; moments and moment generating functions; functions of random variables; sampling distributions; and central limit theorem. This is what Actuarial Exam 1/P is based on. After this class I will take the exam in February.
Acts 140: Theory of Interest - Measurement of interest; solution of interest problems; basic and general annuities; yield rates; amortization schedules and sinking funds; bonds; yield curves; duration and immunization; stochastic approaches. Some real Actuarial stuff, exciting I know.
Math 080: Linear Algebra - Systems of linear equations; vectors, linear independence, linear transformations; matrix operations, inverse of a matrix, determinants; null and column space of a matrix, rank; general vector spaces, basis of a vector space, dimension; eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, orthogonality; applications. Yea! It's not Calculus. And it should be easier because the prereq's are lower math classes.
Econ 173: Intermediate MicroEcon Analysis - Principles of price determination applied to the analysis of consumer demand and business supply; production and costs; comparison of various market structures; income distribution; general equilibrium analysis. Elementary knowledge of calculus assumed. I got the best teacher for this class! He's very bland and dry but his tests are predictable and overall good class.

Oh - We made chocolate pudding last night (that's right: you too can make delicious chocolate pudding right in your dorm room, all you need is milk, a wisk (or forks get the job done), a bowl, and 5 minutes to spare).
Laura and I went to go find our room for next year in GK and 1) almost got lost 2) thought we were in a maze 3) found the room: it's at the end of a long hallway and right across from the bathroom.
Well: I'm off to church.

Ready for Next Year

Next year I will be rooming with Laura, Laura, and Megan. (funny how that worked out, we are definitely going to need some nicknames). After waiting for 2 hours for them to call our number we were lucky enough to get the last room in Goodwin-Kirk that wasn't in the basement. Praise Jesus! :) And I also met with my advisor and we mapped out my course schedule for the next 2 and 1/2 years: that's right - I'm graduating December 07 if everything works out as it's supposed to! Next year I will be taking my first Actuarial course and Stat 131 which is what the first Actuarial exam is based on. I will take a stab at that exam February of 06. So yep - that's the plan. Alright, now I have to go sit though my history class: maybe we'll watch another movie! :) Bye
